FEATURE: The ESM Dream Tour, part 1

Winna, winna chicken dinna!

What would you do if you won the lottery?

A couple of ESM staffers and I were sitting around the table at a Mexican restaurant last night discussing the possibilities.  More specifically, if you won the lottery today and could plan out your dream vacation, what would it be like?  Would you try to do anything and everything?  How much would it cost?  What kind of shopping would you do?

Would you spend it all on hookers and blow in Amsterdam?

At the end of the dinner, we each made a pact to do the following: 1) purchase lottery tickets first thing in the morning and 2) figure out a legitimate travel itinerary if we were to win the trip.

Here are the rules:

  • Whoever has the winning ticket, gets to use their itinerary
  • The travel will be for 6 people
  • At each stop, each traveller will have $5,000 spending cash
  • First class travel and accommodations only
  • You have a budget of $2,000,000 for the entire trip
  • The tour starts on April 1 and can last up to a year
  • 3 cars can be purchased during the trip

It’s a fairly simple game, really.  Well, aside from the fact that you would have to come up with the winning lottery ticket to make it all happen.

Here is the itinerary I picked for my ESM Dream Tour:

Stop number 1. Que bueno!

Stop 1: Miami, FL (4/1 to 4/8), Grand Total - $89,950.12
I figured the best way to start the trip will be to go East for mojitos and killer Cuban food.  Pulled pork anyone?

  • 6 First class one way tickets from LAX to Miami on American Airlines leaving at April 1,  7:40 am and arriving the same day at 3:25 pm – $9,886.20 total ($1,647.70 each person)
  • 3 Premier Oceanfront Suites at The Tides Miami for a week – $18,864.00 total ($6,288 per room, double occupancy)
  • Dinner at Ola restaurant for 6 on the first night – $1,200.00 estimated ($200 each – drinks and dinner)
  • Dinners for the remainder of the trip for 6 people (6 dinners first class, of course) – $5,400 estimated ($150 each – drinks and dinner)
  • Lunch for each day of the trip for 6 people (8 days) – $2,400 estimated ($50 per person)
  • Going out to the hottest clubs in Miami with bottle service for each night that we are there (6 champagne filled evenings) – $15,000 estimated ($2,500 a night for 3 bottles, tip and additional drinks beyond the bottles)
  • Car service to get to and from airport and to get to and from all our shenannigans – $4,200 estimated ($100 per person per day)
  • Spending cash for each person – $30,000 ($5,000 each)
  • 1 spa day for everyone – $3,000 estimated ($500 each – massage, facial, tip)

We’re just getting warmed up.

Stop 2: Picking up the cars in European delivery zones, Grand Total: $638,537.30
One of my biggest dreams is to pick up a brand new car from a factory in Europe.  Another one of my biggest dreams is to do a European tour on the road.  Why not put those two awesome things together.

Unfortunately, between the 3 staffers last night, we each picked cars that were manufactured in 3 different countries:

This now requires 3 different itineraries for each staffer to pick up their cars.

With this car, they will allow you to drive on golf courses.

Itinerary #1: Crewe, England (4/8 to 4/12),  Subtotal: $322,633.00

  • 2 First class, one-way tickets on British Airways from Miami, FL to Heathrow – $9,481.00
  • 4 Night stay in a Deluxe Park Suite at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel$14,332.00 (GBP 2,389/night, with an exchange rate of 1.51 GBP/1 US$)
  • 4 Dinners for 2 at exclusive restaurants – $2,000 estimated ($250/dinner for 2 people)
  • 5 Lunches for 2 (pretty good ones) – $1,000 estimated ($100/lunch for 2 people)
  • Car service to get to and from airport and around London – $850 estimated ($150/day for 5 days plus tips)
  • Spending cash for each person – $10,000 ($5,000 each)
  • Purchase of Bentley Mulsanne – $285,000

The Porsche GT3. In red and ready to be picked up in Germany.

 Itinerary #2: Zuffenhausen, Germany (4/8-4/12), Subtotal: $173,911.82

  • 2 First class, one-way tickets on Delta Airways from Miami, FL to Stuttgart, Germany - $8,725.98
  • 4 Night stay in a Premium Deluxe room at the Le Meridien Stuttgart hotel$1,335.84 (EUR 242/night, with an exchange rate of 1.38 EUR/1 US$)
  • 4 Dinners for 2 at exclusive restaurants – $2,000 estimated ($250/dinner for 2 people)
  • 5 Lunches for 2 (pretty good ones) – $1,000 estimated ($100/lunch for 2 people)
  • Car service to get to and from airport and around Stuttgart – $850 estimated ($150/day for 5 days plus tips)
  • Spending cash for each person – $10,000 ($5,000 each)
  • Purchase of Porsche Turbo GT3 - $150,000 (estimated)

Ferrari 550 Maranello. Not available for factory pick up.

Itinerary #3: Singen, Germany (4/8-4/12), Subtotal: $141,992.48

Unfortunately for the person who selected the 550 Maranello, they cannot pick up the car at the manufacturer because it is an older car.  So, I went on James List to find the one in best condition and it happened to be in Singen, Germany.

  • 2 Royal Business class, one-way tickets on KLM Airlines from Miami, FL to Zurich, Switzerland - $11,622.48
  • 4 Night stay in a Premium Deluxe room at the ALDEN Hotel Spluegenschloss$8,520.00 (2,120 Swiss Francs/night, with an exchange rate of 1 Swiss Franc/0.95 US$)
  • 4 Dinners for 2 at exclusive restaurants – $2,000 estimated ($250/dinner for 2 people)
  • 5 Lunches for 2 (pretty good ones) – $1,000 estimated ($100/lunch for 2 people)
  • Car service to get to and from airport and around Stuttgart – $850 estimated ($150/day for 5 days plus tips)
  • Spending cash for each person – $10,000 ($5,000 each)
  • Purchase of 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello (http://www.jameslist.com/advert/74627/for-sale-ferrari-550) - $108,000 (estimated)

So in two weeks, we have successfully spent $728,487.42.  Only $1.27 million to go…

Next stop, we’re each driving to our next rendezvous: Paris, France.

To create Essential Style for Men, mix 2 parts petrol, 1 part secret agent, 1 part rock and roll, 1 part hip-hop and a shot of tequila in a shaker with ice and vigorously shake for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with explosives and have a supermodel serve for all your friends to enjoy.
