FEATURE: Why men love modifying their rides
Like puberty, the innate need to modify your ride starts to reveal itself about the same time you start noticing facial hair grow on your body.
It’s an addiction that men can’t stop.
New wheels, new motor, exhaust, new paint job, more, more, more! If you ever had a chance to go to or see pictures of a SEMA Show, you can see that this desire to individualize has taken titanic proportions.
My theory – it is because we are fulfilling our biological need to get noticed. Much like the male peacock, we must find ways to win over the other sex. It’s just something we have to do.
So you go get that K&N filter and modified chip that will get you 30 extra horses. It’s your God given destiny as a man.
Even if the girls don’t understand it, they secretly love it. Trust me.

As much as I’d like to deny this, you are right, for me at least.
I didn’t understand it at first, but now I find myself making comments like “That gap is hideous. Why didn’t that guy drop that car? Has he no self respect?” “Nice rims for that car, but he needs to powder coat them black and get lower profile tires.” Yeah, it’s scary, especially if you know me.
I just asked the girl next me to if her boyfriend had tricked out his Range, and she said no and she didn’t care, but she also said he was too old (44) and tired for that kind of thing…hmm.
No need to go over the top, subtlety is key (and you aren’t a pimp or a rapper), but a few well-placed modifications can make all of the difference.
