Tom Ford

So you probably saw this one coming, especially since his name has been in almost every other article written so far – Tom Ford is an ESM Icon.

Here’s a little excerpt about his early life from Wikipedia:

Ford was born August 27, 1961 in Austin, Texas to realtors Tom Ford and Shirley Bunton. He spent his early life in the suburbs of Houston, Texas and in San Marcos, outside Austin; his family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico when he was 11. In Santa Fe, he entered St. Michael’s High School and later moved to Santa Fe Preparatory School, from which he graduated in 1979. Ford left Santa Fe at age 17, when he moved to New York City to study art history at New York University.

In his fashion career, he moved from Perry Ellis to eventually working with Gucci as their creative director.  He is credited with helping turn the brand around from almost going bankrupt.

Now, he has his own fashion house under his name.  Oh, and did I mention he took the job of tailoring James Bond from Brioni?

I personally credit him with bringing the “badass” look back to men’s fashion.  Don’t believe me?  Check out some of his ads the next time you are reading a men’s fashion mag.

To create Essential Style for Men, mix 2 parts petrol, 1 part secret agent, 1 part rock and roll, 1 part hip-hop and a shot of tequila in a shaker with ice and vigorously shake for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with explosives and have a supermodel serve for all your friends to enjoy.

Literally the reason that I went to my high school Homecoming dance with a tailored black suit (Hugo Boss) and a tuxedo shirt, no tie, and pocket square. Finished the outfit up with my FIRST pair of GUCCI shoes. I looked so freakin’ good! #teamTOMFORD
