STYLE: 5 Secrets to your own “Neal Caffrey” style

Neal Caffrey’s style is refined, sophisticated and can be replicated.

Being a good blogger/journalist/web designer requires you to consistently check the statistics for your website.  Surprisingly, I found the term “Neal Caffrey Style” as one of the big ones that have been sending us traffic lately.

I then realized that with the popularity of the show White Collar (ESM Classic Television) and the dapper style of its lead character, Neal Caffrey (ESM Icon..) a lot of you folks out there are figuring out how to unlock the secrets to the “Neal Caffrey” style shown on TV.

I’m no professional stylist, but I definitely know a little something about men’s style.  So without further ado, here are the 5 secrets to getting that super smooth White Collar style:

Secret #1: Be thin
Sorry to break it to you guys, but Matt Bomer is like a buck forty and 5’10” – 5’11”.  To put things in perspective, Manny Pacquiao is 145 and 5’6″ (maybe).

To get true Neal Caffrey style, you gotta be a little on the bulemic side.

Secret #2: Be good looking
C’mon now, don’t tell me you didn’t know this.  Matt Bomer is a pretty good looking dude.  That’s probably why he looks good in all those clothes.

Although this secret is helpful, it’s not necessary.  You don’t have to go out and get facial reconstructive surgery just yet.

Secret #3: Wear suits with slim silhouettes
So here is where secret #1 comes into play.  Neal Caffrey wears a lot of slim fitted suits that make his frame look tall and lean.  Being on the athletic or big side doesn’t play to that advantage.

If you’ve got the cash, you can pick some good ones up at Gucci or Prada.  If you’re balling on a budget, try H&M and Zara.

Secret #4: Wear slim ties, collar pins and a tie bar
This completes the look from secrets 1 and 3.  I am not a big fan of some of the ties Neal Caffrey wears on the show with the weird 50’s print.  I would suggest getting one that is plain jane and a dark color.

Tie bars and collar pins are pretty cheap and readily available at places like Zara or your local department store.  If you don’t want to buy a collar pin?  Just use a safety pin instead. That’s old school Americana style in full effect.

Secret #5: Wear that fedora with confidence
Actually, fedora or not, just be confident.  One thing about Neal Caffrey is that his demeanor oozes with confidence and it shows.

If you put the “con” in both confidence and con-man, you’ll be alright.

To create Essential Style for Men, mix 2 parts petrol, 1 part secret agent, 1 part rock and roll, 1 part hip-hop and a shot of tequila in a shaker with ice and vigorously shake for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with explosives and have a supermodel serve for all your friends to enjoy.

what tie knot would he use??

"Con" in con-man is short for "confidence man" you build confidence in someone to believe what you want.

Also your tie clip should be no wider than your tie. If you look at the pic in this blog you will see "Neal", got around this rule by moving the clip over to the right so it does not surpass his tie. I would not suggest this as the clip will constantly be falling to the heavy side. Buy a tie clip that is not as wide as your tie. And thank you Joe for explaining con-man.

Matt Bomer is billed at 6'0-6'1, not 5'10-5'11. I used to think he was only 5'10 too, but that was before I found out that Tim DeKay is almost 6'3", and Zach Levi is 6'4".

I also think you're way off billing Matt @ 140, that's sickly thin! Matt has muscle definition, and used to be a football player, @ 6'0, anyone under 150 would be unattractively gaunt. I'm 5'10, and slightly more muscular than Matt, and I weigh 160, I'd be surprised if weighed any less than me.

This post is the definition of vague “Own” Neal Caffery’s style how about Confidence should have been number one because if you watch just an episode or two you would know that that is how Neal pulls off just about anything. Being Good Looking was #2 you need to be attractive to be an actor not stylish. Wear Gucci suits with slim silhouettes or Prada, you mean to look fashionable I have to by designer clothes (sarcasm) ??? tip four was actually really good even helpful.

“If you put the con in confidence and con man you’ll be alright.” What is that sentence people weigh pros and cons. I see what you were trying to do there it just fell flat.
