I had a friend who used to tell me all the time he would measure how good a restaurant was simply by the bread they served. He said that if the bread was really good, it meant they put a lot of time and effort into every little detail of the restaurant.
For me, my 2 qualifications for a great restaurant are fairly simple, but have nothing to do with the bread:
The first being the ability for me to remember a dish by name, even if it was 2 months later. If I can’t remember any dish at a restaurant, that means it probably wasn’t that good.
My second qualification? The amount of love they spent on designing the bathroom.
You may be thinking to yourself, why the bathroom? It’s simple - because the bathroom is usually the most neglected part of a restaurant. An afterthought. A place you spend money, if you had money left over.

Even the menus are legit. 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro making sure every detail is covered.
When a restaurant owner takes the time to select the right tiles, mirrors and faucets into their bathroom, that means they truly focus on every detail of their restaurant, not just the food and the frontage.
Introducing 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro in downtown Torrance, California. One of the few places that have met my two qualifications for a good restaurant and have passed with flying colors.
Chris found this place because of his fairly recent passion discovering bars that serve the best craft beers.

Not only did he find an amazing bar, but he found a venue that is like a timewarp of sorts, that takes you back in time to the days when quality and craftsmanship were of the highest standard.
Although we just ordered from the happy hour menu, the dishes (such as the meatballs, fried pickles and fire fries) were amazing.

You could also see that whoever opened this bar took a lot of time and painstaking effort into every decorative detail. From the TV’s looking like they were a part of a picture frame, to the books, to the light fixtures, you could tell someone sat there for at least 20 minutes thinking to themselves, “is this the right angle for the lightbulb to be facing?”
More importantly, the bathroom is pristine, well thought out and beautiful. A sure sign of someone with OCD.

The answer - the lightbulb should be 35 degrees to each other. Details make the difference at 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro in Torrance, CA.
