TRAVEL: THE US GRANT, San Diego
If you’ve lived in Los Angeles for a few years, then most likely you’ve been to San Diego quite a few times.
You’ve walked Gaslamp District, hung out at the Hard Rock, checked out the U.S.S. Midway. You’ve seen the beaches, the harbors and most of the eating spots around town.
But one thing you may have not had a chance to check out is THE US GRANT hotel.
To be honest, I think I’ve personally walked or driven by THE US GRANT about a million times and never took a second to peek inside. I never once thought it could be one of my favorite hotels in San Diego.
Furthermore – I never thought it could have one of the most awesome lounges in the city.
This past weekend, I was fortunate to stay at THE US GRANT with my wife for a one night getaway to San Diego.
I was actually a little worried about our hotel because my experience with historical hotels wasn’t that great; they usually smelled funky, the rooms were small and all I could ever think about was how many ghosts resided within the hotel walls.
THE US GRANT was different and definitely changed my expectations of a historical hotel. From the service, to the upscale amenities, to the well-cared for and elegant rooms; I felt a connection to the hotel almost immediately.
In a word, the place was awesome. Actually, it made you feel old-school awesome. Kind of like you were a Kennedy back in the day awesome.
I even loved the way the rooms were decorated (despite my penchant for the more modern and minimalist type of decor).

And the coup de grâce of THE US GRANT? They’ve got an awesome lounge called the GG Lounge (Grant Grill Lounge) that serves some of the best cocktails in town.
They even had Ultimat Vodka and blue cheese stuffed olives available for my martini. Win.

Quite frankly, even though we only spent one night at THE US GRANT, the service, the room and my instant connection with the hotel has put THE US GRANT on my top ten list of hotels in Southern California.
I would highly recommend you check it out the next time you are in San Diego.
