It’s 2015.

And what should we all be driving around to work?

That’s right – a freaking jet pack!

What could be one of the coolest inventions of all time, we would like to introduce you to The Martin Jetpack from the Martin Aircraft Company.

According to their official website:

The Martin Jetpack was initially conceived of and developed by Glenn Martin in Christchurch in 1981 in response to another jetpack that had a one minute flight-time limit. Now over 30 years later, Martin Aircraft Company has assembled a team of the best experts in aviation to make the jetpack a reality, with flight capability of over 30 minutes at speeds up to 74 km/h and altitudes above 800 feet.

Currently they are deploying the Martin Jetpack as a first responder vehicle and a heavy lift unmanned air vehicle.

Once the the Jetpack is successful in the first responder community, the company will work on developing a Jetpack for leisure and personal use.

Here are some technical details from an article on RobbReport.com:

The Martin Jetpack can fly for up to 30 minutes at about 35 mph and cruise at altitudes of up to 3,000 feet, thanks to a proprietary two-stroke V-4 engine that the company developed to deliver the high power-to-weight ratio and steadiness that the design demands. Fly-by-wire assisted-stability controls and an integrated ballistic parachute enhance the jet pack’s ease of use and safety.

So how much for all this awesome futuristic goodness?

Robb Report is saying it will cost around $200,000; which will give a brand new Aston Martin DB9 a run for its money.

Although we’re not sure where you will be putting your carry-on luggage.
