This time, you be the student and I'll be the teacher. Image courtesy of Hemera/Thinkstock.

Personally, I think you should never stop learning.  They say that your mind keeps getting stronger whenever you challenge it with new ideas and questions.

That’s why I constantly seek professional advice whenever I want to do something new.  It’s always great to have a mentor, because they can get you in the right direction and learning much quicker than if you were going to do it yourself.

This form of teaching or advice can also come from someone that has been around the block a few times.  I know in my professional career, I wouldn’t be where I am now without having someone around to teach me what not to do.

Now all this knowledge is never free.  Yes, sometimes you have to pay for the tutelage, but what I am really referring to is paying that knowledge forward to the next generation of people rolling through life.

One day, there’s going to be someone that will need your help or advice.  Take some time and help them out.  It will pay dividends in the long run to the people around you.

Here’s a good example of the mentor relationship:

To create Essential Style for Men, mix 2 parts petrol, 1 part secret agent, 1 part rock and roll, 1 part hip-hop and a shot of tequila in a shaker with ice and vigorously shake for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with explosives and have a supermodel serve for all your friends to enjoy.
