So I’ve been dying to check out the William Rast fashion line started by Justin Timberlake and his good friend, Trace Ayala.

There was a lot of buzz going around when the line first came out – well – mostly because of the fact that Justin Timberlake was one of the founders.  Since they opened a retail outlet at Century City in Los Angeles, I figured I would go in and see what the hype was all about.

The store design itself looked pretty slick.  Their logo, colors and layout appeal to the graphic artist side of me so that part was great.

Once inside, unfortunately, the story was a little bit different.  I was expecting a lot more pieces from the line since it has been out for a while, but for the most part the store primarily sold jeans.

Yep, just jeans.

The jeans themselves were decent, with the prices about on par with other designer jeans.  There wasn’t anything that really caught my eye enough for me to try it on.

What I did like, however were the men’s leather jackets.  They looked really vintage and had some cool patches making the jackets look like they were set pieces from classic American motorcycle movies.  To make things even better, the lining was red.

So the verdict as of November 2009 is that William Rast has some potential becoming a viable men’s line.  They’ve got great marketing and great ideas but I think their label will come to fruition over the next 2-3 seasons.

We’ll keep our eyes on the line and keep you posted.
