Surfing. Probably not for beginners. Image courtesy of Digital Vision/Thinkstock.

Have you ever surfed?  Would you like to?  It’s a great sport because you hang out at the beach all day and it provides a serious workout without you realizing it.  Surfing also gives you a great excuse to travel to exotic locations.

For those that have never done it before and are interested in trying for the first time, I have the following suggestions before you decide to paddle out:

Take a lesson.
Although lessons are kind of expensive, your instructor will bring all the gear, take you to a beginner spot and they will make sure you stand up your first time out.  Oh, and did I mention that hot girls all want to learn how to surf?

Have fun.
Surfing is one of those sports that was intended purely for recreation by its inventors.  The best way to enjoy it is by having fun.  Don’t worry about that douchebag giving you nasty looks when you bring your foam board out.

Find a good beginner spot.
Nothing will kill your drive to learn surfing more than getting yelled at in the water.  Do yourself a favor, find a place where everyone is in the same situation as you.  Who knows?  You might even make a few friends.

Have the right equipment.
Another fun-killer when you surf?  Being too cold because you aren’t wearing the right wetsuit or trying to learn on the wrong board.  As my instructor used to say, the difference between the right board and the wrong board will be you having fun versus you watching everyone else have fun.

If you dedicate yourself to learning and work real hard, you might even be able to do something like this (but I seriosuly doubt it):

To create Essential Style for Men, mix 2 parts petrol, 1 part secret agent, 1 part rock and roll, 1 part hip-hop and a shot of tequila in a shaker with ice and vigorously shake for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with explosives and have a supermodel serve for all your friends to enjoy.
