Have you ever heard the saying, “find a career and you will never work a day in your life”? For sports, I would like to change it up a bit:
“Find a sport and you will never work out a day in your life.”
Much like other people, I used to be a gym rat (heavy emphasis on the rat). Going in and out of the gym, working out and doing excercises that have no true meaning aside from just looking good to the opposite sex.
Then I found sports that I really loved. Not just sports I enjoyed playing, but sports I am really passionate about. Sports I live, eat and breathe. Sports I think about day in and day out on how I can get better.
Once I discovered these sports, all my old workouts went out the window. Why? Because I was either playing the sport, or training to get better for the sport.
Here’s an example: I used to hate running. I thought it was purposeless and boring. With the advent of finding sports I love to play, running is now a means of improving my performance and endurance when I play those sports.
Excercises that were once mundane are now purposeful and exciting.
So if you haven’t found a sport to love yet, keep looking. Once you find something you enjoy and love it will make the difference between forcing yourself to work out and forcing yourself to rest between workouts.
